o Abstract

N.O.Gallery is pleased to present Schifanoia, a solo exhibition by A Constructed World, curated by Ilaria Bonacossa.

Schifanoia is an ambulant exhibition of installations, paintings, videos and performances that will be presented at N.O.Gallery and in four Milanese apartments. The exhibition in the gallery, open to the public, will include two new multiples produced with N.O. Gallery and an installation that will evolve through different spaces presenting the spectator with the issue of authorship, offering the audience the occasion to decide what makes an artwork, through reflection on the construction of identity and codes of recognition and belonging.

The four apartments will also feature the work of A Constructed World. These installations and events will be privately ‘consumed’, transforming the four Milanese hosts into cultural producers. Rather than interventions these partnerships will function as audience performances, using what-we-already-know to bring us into a shared space with the artists’ work. These projects look towards a greater freedom to encounter contemporary art in a more direct and spontaneous manner. What do we know without-knowing?

Jacqueline Riva + Geoff Lowe began working as A Constructed World in 1993. Their work has been exhibited in numerous biennales including Tirana and Saõ Paulo and Emergency Biennale, and in exhibitions such as Art all’Arte, San Gimignano and Art Music>rock pop techno, MCA Sydney. The Guggenheim Museum New York and Bilbao has invited them to participate in forums, and they were inaugural artists-in-residence at the Serpentine Gallery London. Upcoming solo exhibitions include Australian Centre for Contemporary Art Melbourne, CNEAI Chatou and CAPC Musée Bordeaux.

Schifanoia is part of M.M.M., a program of cultural exchange between Melbourne and Milan, Australia and Italy, developed by the Monash University Museum of Art and independent curator Natalie King, with principal supporters Arts Victoria and the City of Melbourne.

Opening February 1, 2007 from 6 pm to 8.30 pm. February 2 through March 9, 2007.
